Silence Speaks: a story painted into being
When Sandy’s first-born son was diagnosed with autism, she began a baffling search for answers. Her path moved through grief, abandonment and sorrow, but also through hope, determination and the daily work of finding ways to cope.
The result is an intimate visual and poetic record that seeks to educate, create awareness and encourage acceptance for people affected by autism, their families and those caring in silence.

Sandy Howarth was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and later moved to the United Kingdom and the United States for further study. She graduated with honours from Parsons School of Design.
After building a career in Dubai, Sandy gave up her professional life to care for her son. That experience became the heart of Silence Speaks, a deeply personal account told through painting and poetic verse.
Sandy is also the author of No Matter What. Her paintings have been exhibited at numerous art fairs in London, where her visual work continues to explore emotion, resilience and the experiences that words alone cannot always contain.
